Consumer forum slaps Rs 20,000 penalty on postal dept for tampering with parcel

India Post has been ordered by a consumer forum to pay a retired IPS officer Rs 20,000 in compensation after his parcel was tampered with and items were missing. The officer had sent four packets containing saris, bed sheets, shirts, pants, medical books, and plastic containers through India Post, but when they reached their destination, ten saris worth Rs 20,000 were missing. The forum held the postal department officials responsible for the loss and also awarded Rs 5,000 towards the costs of the complaint.
